Escambia County's Water Quality and Land Management division is teaming up with local nonprofit Ocean Hour to host a volunteer cleanup at Jones Swamp Wetland Preserve's Southwest Greenway Trail. The cleanup will take place on Saturday, April 29 at the Glynn Key Boardwalk, located at 402 N. Navy Blvd. The public is encouraged to attend and participate in the event.
Sign-in is at 8:45 a.m., with the cleanup taking place from 9-10 a.m. Volunteers are reminded to dress for weather and bring water, bug spray and sunscreen as needed. Volunteers are asked to park in the Cato’s parking lot at the southeast corner of Navy Boulevard and Highway 98 across the street from Wal-Mart at the traffic light. Supplies including buckets, grabbers, gloves and trash bags will be provided by Ocean Hour and stationed at the trailhead on the north side of Cato’s.
The 2.5-mile Greenway Trail is located along Jones Creek and feeds into Bayou Chico and Pensacola Bay. The cleanup will be on the ¼-mile Glynn Key section of trail located near the intersection of Navy Boulevard and Highway 98.
