Continuing Escambia County's dedication to being at the forefront of cybersecurity, county staff and local stakeholders participated in the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s Virtual Tabletop Cybersecurity Exercise Wednesday, Jan. 25 at the Escambia County Emergency Operations Center.
The exercise aimed to raise awareness of cyber risk management, cyber-related planning and other issues related to cyber incident prevention, protection and response. The interactive, continuous exercise took place over four hours, consisting of a cybersecurity awareness briefing, three phased modules, a debriefing and evaluation. The three scenario modules focused on cyber threats of increasing complexity and severity, beginning with general information on a potential security risk and culminating with the containment, eradication and recovery from a cyber incident.
Through the exercise, participants were able to see the need for developing a list of relevant cyber policies, plans and procedures, developing cybersecurity workforce training requirements and developing cybersecurity threat intelligence sources and capabilities. The exercise also highlighted the importance of inter-agency communication during cyber incidents.
Participating agencies included Escambia County, the city of Pensacola, Santa Rosa County Emergency Management, the city of Gulf Breeze, Emerald Coast Utilities Authority, Escambia County Sheriff's Office, Escambia County School District, West Florida Hospital, Baptist Hospital, Naval Air Station Pensacola, Escambia County Tax Collector, Escambia County Supervisor of Elections, Florida Department of Health in Escambia County, Florida Department of Law Enforcement, Be Ready Alliance Coordinating for Emergencies, Motorola communications contractor for 911/communications, AT&T and Amateur Radio Emergency Services.
