FDOT Perdido Key Drive Work Continues
Panhandle Grading and Paving, Inc. plans to continue this week with daytime lane closures from approximately 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday (and possibly Saturday), for the milling and paving on State Road 292 between the Alabama State line and the Theo Baars Bridge in Perdido Key. These lane closures are anticipated to continue for at least the next two to three weeks. Drivers can continue to expect delays. Message boards are in place at each end of the job displaying, “Lane Closures Ahead, Expect Delays”.
In addition to the closures for the milling and paving, there will also be intermittent lane closures on the Theo Baars Bridge at the west end of the project for moving the concrete barrier rail and other guardrail work.
The FDOT S.R. 292 (Perdido Key Drive) project extends 6.3 mile from the Alabama state line to the Intracoastal Waterway Bridge. Improvements will consist of milling and resurfacing the roadway, minor drainage improvements, guardrail replacement, selected sidewalk removal and replacement, Americans with Disabilities Act upgrades, and placement of new signs and pavement markings along the project site. Perdido Key Drive Multi-Use Trail
The Escambia County Board of County Commissioners passed a resolution Thursday, Jan. 5 requesting that the Florida Department of Transportation advance construction of the Perdido Key Drive Multi-Use Trail from fiscal year 2021 to fiscal year 2019.
This project will provide greatly needed safety and pedestrian improvements to the Perdido Key Drive corridor and enhance the quality of life for surrounding residents. The 10-foot multi-use trail will run along Perdido Key Drive/State Road 292 from Gongora Drive to the Alabama state line. It will be constructed on the north side of the road and have strategically placed sidewalk connections on the south side of the road.
The $1.8 million design cost for the entire corridor will be funded by the Shared Use Nonmotorized Trail Program, or SUN Trail Program Grant and by FDOT though the local Transportation Planning Organization Bicycle and Pedestrian Program. Approximately $2.25 million for construction of the west section (state park entrance to the state line) will be funded by FDOT through the TPO Bicycle and Pedestrian Program.
The Perdido Key Multi-Use Trail is the last stretch of the Greenways and Trails system across the state of Florida and is the No. 1 ranked bicycle/pedestrian project for the Florida-Alabama TPO.
Myrtle Grove Cleanups Scheduled
Two neighborhood cleanups are scheduled for the Myrtle Grove area in February. The cleanups will give residents in the designated areas an opportunity to dispose items like yard debris, household electrics and old furniture and mattresses free of charge. The cleanup is hosted by the Community Redevelopment Agency, along with local partnering agencies, as part of the county’s ongoing effort to help keep local neighborhoods and communities clean and safe.
Only residents in the designated cleanup area are able to participate in the neighborhood cleanup. Items left at the curb outside of the cleanup area will not be collected. All debris must be at the curb by 7 a.m. to be disposed by Escambia County and partnering agencies.
The Myrtle Grove Northeast neighborhood cleanup is scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 1. The general cleanup area is south of West Fairfield Drive, north of West Jackson Street, east of North 61st Avenue and west of North New Warrington Road. Please see the Northeast Myrtle Grove Cleanup Map for details.
The Myrtle Grove Northwest neighborhood cleanup is scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 15. The general cleanup area is south of West Fairfield Drive, north of West Jackson Street, west of North 61st Avenue and east of West Fairfield Drive. Please see the Northwest Myrtle Grove Cleanup Map for details.
In the past two years, more than 925 tons of debris were collected and disposed of through the Community Redevelopment Agency and Safe Neighborhood Program. The county's neighborhood cleanup program is hosted by the Community Redevelopment Agency, Escambia County Safe Neighborhoods Program and Escambia County Waste Services. Local partners include Escambia County Environmental Code Enforcement, the Escambia County Road Prison, the City of Pensacola Sanitation Department and Keep Pensacola Beautiful.
If you need assistance with moving your items to the curb or would like to verify that your residence is in the cleanup area, please contact Nick Jordan, Safe Neighborhood Coordinator, Escambia County Community Redevelopment Agency, at 850-595-1829 or safeneighborhoods@myescambia.com.
