Eagle Scout Project to Help Keep Pensacola Beach Clean

Published Dec 9, 2016

A local Boy Scout has completed a project on Pensacola Beach that will make it easier for beachgoers and the Santa Rosa Island Authority to collect and dispose of litter along the shore. The initiative was the Eagle Scout project of Connor Stewart, a member of Boy Scout Troop 425 at St. Paul's Catholic Church.

Through the project, 12 yellow boxes were built to be used by the SRIA as trash bag containers. Anyone who sees litter can obtain a recyclable bag from the yellow box, collect the litter and dispose of it properly. The boxes will be installed along Pensacola Beach, and the Pensacola Beach Public Works department has requested another six containers.

This was a cooperative effort between UF/IFAS Escambia County Extension Services, Ocean Hour, Pensacola Beach Advocates, the Escambia County Public Works Department and Boy Scout Troop 425.
