Escambia County Fire Rescue is partnering with Southpaw Grill Cajun & Creole Restaurant in Pensacola to raise money to purchase smoke alarms, which will be used for ECFR's Public Outreach Program and distributed free of charge to local residents in need.
From 4-9 p.m. on Public Safety Days identified for Escambia County Fire Rescue, Southpaw Grill will donate 15 percent of its proceeds to ECFR for the purchase of smoke alarms. The next Public Safety Day will be Tuesday, Nov. 15 at Southpaw Grill, located at 6705 Pine Forest Road. The partnership is ongoing, and future Public Safety Days will be announced on the
ECFR Facebook or
@MyEscambia Twitter. The partnership was made possible through a business sponsorship agreement with Southpaw Grill approved on Oct. 6 by the Escambia County Board of County Commissioners.
Smoke alarms that are properly installed and maintained play a vital role in reducing fire deaths and injuries. According to the National Fire Protection Association, a working smoke alarm cuts the chances of dying in a reported fire in half. The BCC and Escambia County Fire Rescue are continuing to work toward their goal of having a working smoke alarm in every home in the county.
