Join West Florida Public Libraries, Friends of the West Florida Public Libraries and Jazz Pensacola Sunday, Nov. 13 from 3-5 p.m. for the Library of Congress’ National Jukebox presentation and live jazz at the Pensacola Library, 239 N. Spring St.
This free event will feature a performance and discussion from jazz trombonist David Sager, curator of the Library of Congress’ National Jukebox. Sager will talk about the largest collection of historical recordings ever made publicly available online, the ongoing effort to preserve jazz recordings and will outline details of the National Jukebox, a program that preserves early jazz music, poetry and speeches. Sager will also perform examples of early jazz with Pensacola’s Dixieland Dandies.
Sager has toured the United States and Europe and is a regular instructor at New Orleans jazz workshops. Sager received a Grammy nomination for his notes for the compact disc “King Oliver, Off the Record: The Complete 1923 Jazz Band Recordings.” In addition to working as curator for the Library of Congress’ National Jukebox, Sager continues to perform at jazz festivals and clubs.
Friends of the West Florida Public Libraries will provide light refreshments at the event. Attendees can also visit the Jazz Room on the second floor of the library until the library closes at 4 p.m.
