Book Events for Adults
“The Girls” Book Discussion
“The Girls” by Emma Cline is one of the most talked about books of 2016. Evie, 14, sees a group of girls that she is instantly drawn to. She is soon enmeshed in a cult with dire consequences.
Molino Book Club
Bring a friend and join the discussion of Marc N. Peyser’s “Hissing Cousins: the Untold Story of Eleanor Roosevelt and Alice Roosevelt Longworth.”
Books to Film Book Club
Join in a discussion of “The Danish Girl” by David Ebershoff before checking out the 2015 movie. Anyone is welcome to meet others who enjoy looking past the plot and between the lines, with or without reading the book.
Book Events for Youth
Not Your Parents' Book Club
Not Your Parents' Book Club is open to anyone 13-17 years old. This month teens will make Christmas ornaments for the Enon Country Manor, while discussing books to read for the upcoming year.
Kids R.E.A.D. to the Dogs
Build confidence in literacy skills while reading to therapy dogs. Reading Education Assistance certified therapy dogs listen as children read aloud to them. Signups are encouraged.
American Girl Book Club “Kit Kitteridge”
Girls will receive a “Kit Kitteridge” book and explore the world of a Depression era American Girl through crafts, games and activities. Registration is required. Children age 7-13 are welcome. Books and activity materials are provided by The Friends of the Southwest Branch Library.
Crafts
Westside Loopy Loomers
Participants can learn to loom knit hats, scarves, lap blankets and other items while giving back to the community. Yarn and looms are provided. All ages are welcome.
Lego Night
Visit the craft room to create with Lego. There will be building challenges and open play. Best enjoyed by ages 2 and up; parent or caregiver must be present.
Twisted Stitchers
Yarners of all ages and experience levels are invited to sit and stitch. Be sure to bring a current knitting, crocheting or loom knitting project or supplies to start a new one.
Basket Craft
Using a kit, adult crafters can create colorful mini-baskets in less than one hour. Longtime patron Diane Bender will demonstrate and guide participants using cardboard and yarn.
Make-it Mondays: Painted leaves
Celebrate fall by painting on some leaves. Children are welcome to bring some interesting leaves with them to paint on, but there will also be some on hand. Children will use tempera and acrylic paints to decorate leaves.
Topsy Turvy Thursday Thanksgiving
Special guests join in celebrating Thanksgiving with live music and costumes. Plan to sing, dance, make something thankful to share and have a snack.
Make & Take
Make a paper airplane from kits and learn about aerodynamics. Materials are provided by The Friends of the Southwest Branch Library.
Make-it Mondays: CD action art prints
Participants will use old CDs to make colorful prints on paper. There will be experimentation with mixing colors using dots of paint on old CDs and twisting them onto paper to create colorful patterns.
Celebrations
A Salute to Veterans
Join the Molino Branch Library and the Molino Mid-County Historical Society in recognizing the service of veterans on the 75th anniversary of the bombing of Pearl Harbor. The featured speaker is Frank Emond, a 98-year-old Pearl Harbor survivor, Navy veteran and Red Cross volunteer. He will recount stories from his military service, words of wisdom he has learned in 98 years and answer audience questions. The University of West Florida Historic Trust will provide a display of reproductions of WWII uniforms along with memorabilia and a few surprises.
Thanksgiving Coloring Contest
Children up to age 12 can pick up their coloring sheet and entry form at the Molino Branch starting Monday, Nov. 7. Color the lively Thanksgiving turkey and return him to the Molino Branch by Saturday, Nov. 19 for a chance to win a prize. Winners will be announced on Monday, Nov. 21.
Veterans Day
All West Florida Public Libraries will be closed for Veterans Day. Branches that are regularly open on Saturday will reopen at the regular time on Nov. 12.
Thankful Giving
Children can enjoy stories, crafts and snacks with a theme of giving back to the community just in time for the holidays.
International Games Day
Celebrate International Games Day with games, puzzles and other activities for all ages. There will be a variety of fun at the various branches of West Florida Public Libraries. Games will range from children’s favorite to more complicated strategy-based games and puzzles.
Thanksgiving
All West Florida Public Libraries will be closed for Thanksgiving. Branches that are regularly open on Saturday will reopen at the regular time on Nov. 26.

Whooo’s Who in Your Family Tree
Whooo’s got a story? You do. Help keep your stories alive by coming in to the Genealogy Library to scan family documents and pictures. Bring a flash drive and leave with a family album in your pocket.
Movies and Music
Sensational Saturday Movie
“West Side Story” is one of the last musicals for the 2016 calendar. The Leonard Bernstein and Stephen Sondheim music tells the story of star-crossed lovers in New York City during the 1950s. The unrated movie was released in 1961, with a running time of 151 minutes.
Guitar Giveaway with Jane Rosenbohm
Jane Rosenbohm returns to Southwest Branch Library with “My Brain On Music.” She will speak about what happens in the brain while playing and listening to music. Time for questions and comments will be allowed after the program and before a Tyler Mountain acoustic/electric guitar, donated by Rosenbohm, is awarded to a patron. The program is sponsored by The Friends of the Southwest Branch Library.
Partner Programs
GED Classes
Earn your GED at the Molino Community Complex. GED classes are provided through a partnership among West Florida Public Libraries, George Stone Technical Center and the Molino Community Center. Classes are held Monday and Thursday evenings from 6-8 p.m. in the Molino Community Complex.
Genealogy / Family History Workshop
The West Florida Genealogical Society partners with WFPL to provide volunteer assistance to library patrons performing family history research. Join WFGS and WFPL at Pensacola LDS Church for a hosted presentation and one-on-one help sessions. Computers will be available, but bring your own laptop or tablet for your own use if possible. Call (850) 291-0107 for more information or to reserve a spot.
West Florida Genealogical Society – Regular Meeting
Come learn from the experts. The West Florida Genealogical Society meets on the first Saturday of every month (except July) to share information on how to perform family history research.
Mythosophy: The Wisdom of Myth – The Soul in Mythology
What is the soul? Does it exist? Does it survive death? The first accounts describing the soul are found in mythology. Come explore some stories from different mythologies about the nature and qualities of the soul.

This workshop will introduce participants to the components of a computer, along with basic keyboard and mouse skills. Space is limited, and registration at Molino Branch Library is required.
Learn to Use Ancestry.com for Your Family History Research
Come learn from the best: the Genealogy Branch Library volunteers. WFPL’s subscription to Ancestry.com (available for use at the library) provides citizens with a great family research toolset, so come on in and learn how to make the most of it. Registration is requested, because there are a maximum of eight spots. Walk-ins are welcome if fewer than eight attend.
Intro to the Internet
Come and learn how to explore the internet. This class will cover navigation, browser and internet safety basics. Space is limited, and registration at Molino Branch Library is required.
