Panhandle Fruit and Vegetable Conference

Published Sep 22, 2016
The UF/IFAS Small Farms and Alternative Enterprises Extension Team is proud to present the Panhandle Fruit and Vegetable Conference on Tuesday, Oct. 11 at the Jackson County Agricultural Complex, 2741 Pennsylvania Ave. in Marianna, FL.  The conference sessions will focus on three main tracks, diversified crops, protected agriculture and tree fruit  and berry production. Registration is $50. The conference program and registration are available online at www.pfvc.eventbrite.com.

This event will provide a great networking space and share practical farming knowledge that can help farmers across the region. “Our event will feature leading experts in fruit and vegetable production, hands-on learning and educational farm tours,” said Matt Lollar, Horticulture Agent for the UF/IFAS Jackson County Extension, and one of the event organizers. This conference is the fourth of the new regional events created by a team of UF/IFAS Small Farms and Alternative Enterprises Extension Agents.

The conference keynote speaker will be farmer and author Richard Wiswall. Richard will share his expertise in making farm businesses profitable. He will also lead a two-hour practical workshop on this topic.  Later in the day, the conference will offer farm tours on Satsuma and protected agriculture. At the same time, workshops on vegetable grafting and farm budgets will be offered. In addition, participants will be able to visit and network with vendors and educational organizations at the conference trade show. Come network and learn with other farmers, IFAS Extension and Research Personnel and other industry representatives

Registration includes refreshments, lunch, educational materials and transportation to farm tour sites. For more information, contact your UF/IFAS County Extension or call 352-294-1692.

Partial support for this event is provided by a FDACS Specialty Crop Block Grant.
