Book Events for Adults
Pensacola Opera Book Discussion
The Pensacola Opera will give a preview of their opera, “Glory Denied." “Glory Denied," based on the book of the same name by Tom Philpott, tells the true story of Col. Jim Thompson who was held as a prisoner of war during the Vietnam War. Participants will enjoy the opera selections and discuss the book.
“The Dog Stars” Book Discussion
Discussion of “The Dog Stars” by Peter Heller. Hig has survived the flu pandemic and now he, his dog Jasper and his neighbor Bangley must survive each day. One day he hears a voice while flying his 1956 Cessna. Is it a friend or foe?
Books to Film Book Club
Join us in a rousing discussion of “Black Mass” by Dick Lehr and Gerard O'Neill before the movie comes out. Whether you have read the book or not, we welcome you to meet others who enjoy looking past the plot and between the lines.
Molino Book Club
Join us for an in-depth discussion about book structure, plots, themes and characters of popular genres. In October, we will discuss “The Silent Sister” by Diane Chamberlain.
Book Events for Youth
American Girl Book Club – Kit Kitteridge
Youth will receive a Kit Kitteridge book and explore through crafts, games, and activities the world of a Depression era American Girl. Registration required. Children age 7-13 are welcome. Books and activity materials are provided by The Friends of the SWBL.
Kids R.E.A.D. to the Dogs
Reading Education Assistance certified therapy dogs and handlers listen to children read for 15 minutes. This program encourages reluctant or shy readers and builds confidence in literacy skills. Preregistration is preferred.
Not Your Parents’ Book Club
Come talk about books over pizza. This month the group will have a zombie game night. Participants will discuss the “Walking Dead” graphic novels and play zombie-themed games. Youth ages 13-17 are invited.
Crafts
Lego Night
Join us in the craft room to create with Lego. Children will have building challenges and open play. Best enjoyed by ages 2 and up, and a parent or caregiver must be present.
Westside Loopy Loomers
Learn to loom knit hats, scarves, lap blankets and other items as we give back to the community. The current project is knit hats for the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Sacred Heart Hospital. Yarn and looms are provided. All ages are welcome.
Twisted Stitchers
Yarners of all ages and experience levels are invited to join the group in sitting and stitching. Be sure to bring a current knitting, crocheting or loom knitting project or supplies to start something new.
Make-it Mondays: Watercolor resist art spider web
Have fun experimenting with watercolor resist technique to create a unique masterpiece. Draw a design with crayon and paint over with watercolors to reveal the design.
Sensational Saturdays
Release your inner artist. Drop by the library for cookies and coloring for grown-ups.
Teen Time: Art Studio
Teens can gain exclusive access to an extensive collection of art and craft supplies. What they create is up to them.
Make-it Mondays: Popsicle Stick Witch Magnet
Cast a spell and make a friendly witch that can hang on the fridge. Participants will be painting, cutting, gluing and drawing with markers to complete this craft.

Star Wars Reads
This worldwide celebration of both Star Wars and reading is returning for its fifth year throughout the month of October. West Florida Public Libraries will celebrate with special Star Wars-themed story times and activity pages available throughout the month.
Pirate Party
Arrrrrr matey, come down for a pirate party. Walk the plank and get a prize. Enjoy movies, goodies, and fun - fun - fun!!! Snacks, prizes and books are provided by The Friends of the SWBL.
Topsy Turvy Thursday
Come to the library for stories and a chance to show off your Halloween costume as we parade through for treats.
Orange You SCARED? Halloween Party!
Trick or treat at the library and have loads of fun. There will be candy, games, stories and surprises.
Haunting Halloween
Goblins and ghouls all around – a place to hide can’t be found! Wear your costume and haunt the library for lots of frightening fun and goodies
It Happened One Night at the Molino Library
Come get your fright on at the Molino Library. Enjoy a frightfully funny short play (zombies going to prom) put on for you by the library staff, trick-or-treat through the library and tour the haunted museum if you dare.

Sensational Saturdays
Come out for a showing of Disney’s “Enchanted." The PG movie, featuring a fractured fairy tale story line, was released in 2007 and has a running time of 108 minutes.
Friends of the Southwest Branch Library Classic Movie Series
Take in a classic movie with “The Wizard of Oz." Dorothy and her dog Toto are taken to the land of Oz in this 1939 classic starring Judy Garland and Ray Bolger. It’s rated G, with a running time of 101 minutes. Movie, water and popcorn are provided by the Friends of the SWBL.

Mythosophy: The Wisdom of Myth – Fall Festival Folklore
Come explore some harvest season myths and rituals. In Greek myth, how do Persephone and Demeter explain our changing seasons? Also, what are the ancient roots of All Hallow’s Eve and how do these connect with modern practices and rituals?

GED Class
Earn your GED at the Molino Community Complex. GED classes are provided through a partnership among West Florida Public Libraries, George Stone Technical Center and the Molino Community Center. Classes are held Monday and Thursday evenings from 6-8 p.m. in the Molino Community Complex.
Florida Fish and Wildlife Hunter Safety Course

Every hero has a quest. Be a family history hero. Come learn how to use the Heritage Quest research tool and find out more (and there’s always more) about your family history. Let the quest begin. Registration is requested; there is a maximum of eight people. Walk-ins are welcome if space is available.

Create a document by learning the basics of Word 2016. Using the ribbons, spelling and grammar, saving, and printing will be covered.

This class is for people who are new to Excel. Attendees will learn how to navigate around a spreadsheet and learn basic formatting skills.
