Final Airgas Update

As of 5 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 28, one person is confirmed unaccounted for at the Airgas explosion. No other injuries to Airgas or Ascend employees have been reported. The Florida State Fire Marshall is the lead investigative agency for this incident and all other information and updates will be released from their office.

At approximately 12:15 p.m., agencies responded to an explosion at the Airgas Facility found at the Ascend Performance Materials Chemical Plant, located at 3000 Old Chemstrand Road. There were no off-site impacts. 

Crews from Escambia County Fire Rescue, Emergency Management, EMS, Sheriff’s Office, Search and Rescue, State Fire Marshall, ATF, Florida Highway Patrol, Trauma Intervention Program of Northwest Florida and Century Prison responded.
