Genre Chat Book Discussion Group

Books to Film Book Club
Join others in a rousing discussion of a literary work that is a precursor to a movie. August’s title is “Miracles from Heaven” by Christy Wilson Beam. The book was published in 2015 and the movie was released March 2016.
Book Events for Youth
Books and Pizza Book Club
Youth ages 13-17 years are invited to talk books over pizza! This book club focuses on what teens like to read. Members will decide what to read. Bring your appetite for pizza and a list of your favorite books to the meeting.
R.E.A.D. to Dogs
Build confidence in literacy skills while reading to our canine therapy dogs partners. Sessions are free, but registration is requested. Call Southwest Branch Library at (850) 453-7780 and Tryon Branch Library at (850) 471-6980 to reserve your 15-minute time slot.
American Girl® Book Club
Youth ages 7 to 13 are invited to explore the world of American Girl “Kit Kitteridge” through crafts, games and activities about the Depression-Era girl. Summer isn’t over yet and we want to celebrate our beautiful beaches! We are encouraging youth of all ages to create a great work of art using seashells and paint.
Sensational Saturday – Doggie Collars
Join us and make doggie collars for our wonderful four-legged friends at the Pensacola Humane Society and R.E.A.D.
Make n’ Take – Learn to Use a Loom
Bring the family out and join the librarian as she instructs everyone on how to make woven items on a metal loom with loopy yarn. It will be fun for all ages.
Make It Monday – Shark Hand Puppet
Put on a show with a hand puppet. Create your very own carnivorous creature of the deep blue sea – a shark. Be careful or you might lose a hand.
Teen Time – Cubeecraft
Join us to make your favorite Cubeecraft characters. All that is required is patience and a steady hand to build this paper craft. Space is limited, please register for this activity at the Youth Services desk.

Twisted Stitchers Yarn Club
Yarners of all ages and experience levels are invited to join us as we sit and stitch. Please be sure to bring your current knitting, crocheting or loom knitting project or supplies to start a new one.

Come learn to loom knit with the Westside Loopy Loomers as we pay it forward with projects to benefit our community. Please bring your own supplies, but if you are new, we’ll get you started with ours.

Friends of Southwest Branch Library (FSWBL) Classic Movie Series
By popular vote, the 11th film in this 12-part series is "The Searchers," produced by John Ford and starring John Wayne, Jeffery Hunter, Vera Miles and Natalie Wood. This 1956 Warner Brothers is not rated and has a runtime of 119 minutes. Popcorn and bottled water will be served courtesy of Friends of Southwest Branch Library.
Sensational Saturdays Movie
Please join us for a showing of “Beach Blanket Bingo.” The film was released by MGM in 1965. It has a runtime of 100 minutes and has not been rated.
