The Escambia County Engineering Department will begin re-striping and installing new signs as part of the toll booth lane upgrades in front of the Bob Sikes Bridge Toll Plaza entering Pensacola Beach. The upgrades are expected to improve Pensacola Beach traffic flow and will consist of modifying the four toll lanes at the toll plaza. The work is expected to begin mid May.
After the striping is complete, the two far left lanes will become the mixed mode lanes for cash and SunPass/Annual Pass, and the far two right lanes will become the dedicated SunPass/Annual Pass lanes (no cash accepted). The current configuration consists of the far left lane as the dedicated SunPass/Annual Pass lane, with the other three lanes serving as mixed mode lanes accepting SunPass/Annual Pass and cash.
This roadway project will result in new traffic patterns, and drivers are asked to exercise caution in the area while the work is completed.
The work may have temporary lane closures, closures are expected to be minimal. The work is expected to be completed in 21 days, and every effort will be made to expedite construction efforts in order to be complete on or before Thursday, May 23.
