Escambia County recently received the Government Finance Officers Association's Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for budget documents during the 2014-2015 fiscal year.
The award represents a significant achievement and reflects on the commitment of the governing body and staff meeting the highest principles of government budgeting. In order to receive this award, Escambia County had to satisfy nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation. Budget documents must be rated proficient in all four categories which include: a policy document, financial plan, operations document and a communication device.
When this award is granted, a Certificate of Recognition is presented to the individual or department designated as being primarily responsible for its having achieved the award. This award is presented to Escambia County’s Management and Budget Services.
The Government Finance Officers Association is a major professional association servicing the needs of 18,300 appointed and elected local, state, and provincial-level government officials and other finance practitioners. It provides top quality publications, training programs, services, and products designed to enhance the skills and performance of those responsible for government finance policy and management.
The GFOA established the Distinguished Budget Presentation Awards Program in 1984 to encourage and assist state and local governments to prepare budget documents of the very highest quality that reflect both the guidelines established by the National Advisory Council on State and Local Budgeting and the GFOA's best practices on budgeting and then to recognize individual governments that succeed in achieving that goal. Award recipients have pioneered efforts to improve the quality of budgeting and provide an excellent example for other governments throughout North America.
