Winners of Celebrating Brownsville Mural Competition Announced

The winners of the Celebrating Brownsville Mural Competition were announced by District 3 Commissioner Lumon May at the 3rd Annual Celebrating Brownsville Arts and Cultural Festival held today, Saturday, April 30:

  • Elementary School Student Category - Kristan Gaubert, “Celebrate the Power”
  • High School Student Category - Maritza Barajas, “Eagle Women”
  • Professional Category - Shelly Marshall, “Seahorse Spirit”
  • Professional Category - Deyane Moses, “6th Man”
  • Professional Category - Patricia O’Neal, “Heart Invite”

The winners' artwork will be reproduced as building installations and exhibited on local buildings within the Brownsville area. The theme of this year’s competition was “Empowerment,” and winning pieces were selected for their positive representations of diverse urban communities. Hosted by the Escambia County Community Redevelopment Agency and Artel Gallery in the heart of Brownsville at 3300 Mobile Highway, Celebrating Brownsville focuses on bringing art to the community in many forms.
