Second graders from Ensley Elementary School joined District 3 Commissioner Lumon May Tuesday morning for a grand reopening event at Old Ensley Park, enjoying food, games and new amenities at the park. The Old Ensley Park Celebration took place Tuesday, March 29, dedicating nearly $70,000 in upgrades installed at the park over the past year. Additions include an all-inclusive, special needs playground in 2015, outdoor fitness equipment, new park sign and sand volleyball court.
Students played tug of war and kickball in the park’s open green space, also taking advantage of the park’s playground and fitness equipment. Escambia Fire Rescue paid a visit to give a fire truck tour and fun lesson about firefighting equipment.
The all-inclusive playground encourages children of all ages and abilities to play together, specifically designed to provide enjoyment for special needs children while stimulating their motor and sensory skills. The equipment was installed next to an existing playground at Old Ensley Park, further promoting an inclusive environment for all children. The recent fitness equipment addition also provides parents and guardians the opportunity to exercise while supervising their children playing nearby, creating a family-oriented setting at the park.
With the latest upgrades, amenities at Old Ensley Park now include a pavilion, picnic tables, playground, swing set, all-inclusive playground amenities, outdoor fitness equipment, sand volleyball court and open green space for passive play and recreational opportunities.
