District 3 Commissioner Lumon May invites the community to join in a grand reopening event and Old Ensley Park Celebration, dedicating nearly $70,000 in upgrades installed at the park over the past year. The event will be held Tuesday, March 29 at 11:30 a.m. at Old Ensley Park, located at 107 W. Detroit Blvd. Second graders from Ensley Elementary School will be assisting Commissioner May with the park celebration.
Additions include an all-inclusive, special needs playground in 2015, outdoor fitness equipment and a new sand volleyball court and park sign to be added just in time for the celebration.
The all-inclusive playground encourages children of all ages and abilities to play together, specifically designed to provide enjoyment for special needs children while stimulating their motor and sensory skills. The equipment was installed next to an existing playground at Old Ensley Park, further promoting an inclusive environment for all children. The recent fitness equipment addition also provides parents and guardians the opportunity to exercise while supervising their children playing nearby, creating a family-oriented setting at the park.
With the latest upgrades, amenities at Old Ensley Park now include a pavilion, picnic tables, playground, swing set, all-inclusive playground amenities, outdoor fitness equipment, sand volleyball court and open green space for passive play opportunities.
