Commissioner Underhill Participates in NTSA Annual Leadership Summit

Published Mar 8, 2016

District 2 Commissioner Doug Underhill will be one of three Escambia County residents participating in a panel at the 2016 Modeling & Simulation Leadership Summit in Chesapeake, Virginia on March 9. The event brings the Modeling & Simulation community together to discuss important issues related to the practice, and to try to reach consensus on one or two specific, actionable initiatives for the Congressional M&S Caucus to take for action.

Escambia County continues to operate on the cutting edge of cybersecurity on the national stage, as evidenced by three Escambia County-based speakers being asked to serve on the panel. Commissioner Underhill is joined by Randy Ramos, AFCEA Pensacola Chapter President and owner of Global Business Systems, Inc. and Tim White, a Warrington native and President of Combs & Greyfield.

Underhill has been asked to speak on a panel about cybersecurity and antiterrorism, in part for his involvement over the last three years with Cyberthon. Cyberthon is a community event designed to give high school and college students hands-on experience in cyber defense and engagement procedures with instruction from active industry experts.

“Challenge-based learning like Cyberthon is not just for kids," Underhill said. "Cybersecurity is a dynamic industry that changes by the minute. Constant education and learning is critical to success in the industry. Escambia County's cyber workers and businesses have established themselves as the nation's ‘best of breed’.”

The National Training and Simulation Association conducts the annual leadership summit on behalf of U.S. Congressman Randy Forbes and the Modeling and Simulation Caucus. Congressman Jeff Miller is also a member of the M&S Caucus.

Each year NTSA holds this Leadership Summit to identify potential policy and legislative initiatives that can encourage the use of modeling and simulation across domains and disciplines. This year's theme is "Black Swan", which focuses on identifying ways in which modeling and simulation can be a disruptive technology to prepare for the future, maintain the safety and security of our nation, and prevent harm to our nation and our nation's assets and people.
