Dreamy Opportunities for Youth and Families
 
Special Edition Peanuts® Library Cards

Sweet Candy Dreams

Do you love candy? Everyone is welcome to come pursue your sweet dreams with us and make   candy cane hearts.

Topsy-Turvy Thursdays: Puppet Dreams

  • Thursday, Feb. 11, 4 p.m. - Tryon Branch Library, Meeting Room A

Join us for a Reader’s Theater in which YOU help present our puppet show. Young patrons will take part in a presentation of “Little Red Riding Hood” and “The Three Little Bears”. It’s guaranteed to be camera worthy fun.

Keep Calm and Dream On

  • Saturday, Feb. 13, 1 p.m. – Pensacola Library, Youth Services, Craft Room

Teens, do you dream of being a rock star? Turn your dreams into reality with Wii Rock Band. This event is intended for youth ages 12 to 17.

Happy Hamster Dreams

  • Thursday, Feb. 18, 5 p.m. - Century Branch Library

Come meet and greet our new library mascot, a happy hamster. Learn fun facts about our tiny friend, name him and craft your own little critter to take home.

Dreamcatcher Day

Do you have a hard time remembering dreams? Youth of all ages will make dreamcatchers. Hang one on your bedpost and those sweet dreams will stick around. 

Make n’ Take: Dream Jars

Youth of all ages are invited a special pajama Story Time where we’ll create a Dream jar to take home.

Snowflake Dreams: Elsa’s Winter Story Time

Friends of the West Florida Public Library Author Visit and Book Signing

Come meet Gary D. Cumberland, M.D., author of “My Life with Death, Memoirs of a Journeyman Medical Examiner” and gain insight about the life of a real working medical examiner.

WFPL Book Club

February is Mystery Book Month

Drop by the Youth Department at any our library locations and hunt for the mystery book for a chance to win a prize.

Pizza and Books

  • Tuesday, Feb. 16, 6:00 p.m. - Molino Branch Library

Like pizza and books? Teens aged 13 to 17 are invited to geek-out on both at this book club designed to focus on your favorite reads. We’ll provide the pizza and you pick the books.

R.E.A.D. to Dogs

  • Saturday, Feb. 20, 10 a.m. - Tryon Branch Library, Meeting Room B
  • Saturday, Feb.  27, 10 a.m. - Southwest Branch Library, Meeting Room

Build confidence in literacy skills while reading to our canine partners who are certified therapy dogs. Sessions are free but registration is requested. Call Southwest Branch Library at (850) 453-7780 and Tryon Branch Library at (850) 471-6980 to reserve your 15 minute time slot.

American Girl Book Club

  • Saturday, Feb. 20, 2 p.m. – Southwest Branch Library, Meeting Room

Youth ages 7 to 13 are invited to explore the world of American Girl, “Kit Kitteridge” through crafts, games and activities in relation to the Depression-Era girl.  Each child will receive a Kit Kitteridge book. Our free computer classes utilize desktop PCs and run Microsoft Windows 7 Professional.

Basic Computer Skills I

  • Tuesday, Feb. 2, 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.                                                                                   

Patrons will be introduced to the components of a computer and learn basic keyboard and mouse skills.

Open Lab

  • Thursday, Feb. 4, 10:30 a.m. to noon
  • Thursday, Feb. 18, 10:30 a.m. to noon

Do you need a little assistance with a computer related task? Sign-up for this session and receive hands-on help.

Basic Computer Skills II

  • Tuesday, Feb. 9, 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Participants will receive an introduction to Microsoft Windows and learn to navigate between different programs.

Windows 10

  • Wednesday, Feb. 10, 10:30 a.m. to noon

Are you curious about the newest operating system for Microsoft? Please join us for this introductory overview. Participants are encouraged to bring their Window 10 devices.

Email Attachments

  • Saturday, Feb. 13, 10:30 a.m. to noon

Participants will learn how to attach a file to an email using Yahoo, Gmail, Outlook or Hotmail. We will also cover how to send a resume to a potential employer or a picture to a friend.

Intro to the Internet

  • Tuesday, Feb. 16, 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Participants will learn about web browsers, internet safety and navigation skills.

Excel 2010 Basics

  • Wednesday, Feb. 17, 10:30 a.m. to noon

Students new to Microsoft Excel will learn how to navigate around a spreadsheet and learn basic formatting skills.

Word 2010 Basics

  • Saturday, Feb. 20, 10:30 a.m. to noon

Patrons will learn to create a document using Microsoft Word 2010. We will explore tools on Microsoft’s Ribbon, like Spell Check and Grammar Check as well as review how to print and save documents.

Email Basics

  • Saturday, Feb. 23, 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Participants will learn to compose, send and receive email messages. We will also discuss different email providers and basic email security.

Excel 2010 Intermediate

  • Wednesday, Feb. 24, 10:30 a.m. to noon

Now that you have the basics, take your Excel skills to the next level. Participants will learn to format cells, sort and filter data, insert formulas and much more.

Word 2010: Beyond the Basics

  • Tuesday, Feb. 27, 10:30 a.m. to noon

Participants will learn to create tables and insert WordArt, pictures and clipart into a newsletter format.

Twisted Stitchers Yarn Club

Movies

Sensational Saturdays Movie

  • Saturday, Feb. 6, 12:30 p.m. - Tryon Branch Library, Meeting Room B

Please join us for a showing of “The Wiz.”  This film is an adaption of the classic Broadway play, “The Wizard of Oz.”  The 1978 film is a collaboration of Motown Productions and Universal Pictures, rated G and has a runtime of 135 minutes.

Friends of Southwest Branch Library (FSWBL) Classic Movie Series

  • Thursday, Feb. 18, 6 p.m. - Southwest Branch Library, Meeting Room 

By popular vote, the sixth film in this twelve part series is "King Kong", starring Robert Armstrong and Fay Wray.  This 1933 RKO Radio Pictures film is not rated and has a runtime of 100 minutes. Popcorn and bottled water will be served courtesy of Friends of Southwest Branch Library.

Music and Opera

Pensacola Opera presents: Jack and the Beanstalk

The Pensacola Opera offers several performances of the endearing tale, “Jack and the Beanstalk”. Appropriate for all ages; don’t miss this free opportunity to expand your family’s cultural horizons.

Tunesday Sound Café

Please join us around the baby grand piano each Tuesday evening as we listen to live music played by local and visiting artists courtesy of the Jazz society of Pensacola. Beginning Tuesday, January 26 we will serve free coffee to chase off those Tuesdays blues.
