Fitness Tips for a New Year

Customer Appreciation Day

Book Events for Adults

Daydreamers Book Club

  • Tuesday, January 12, 6:00 p.m. - Molino Branch Library

Come day dream with us at this book club which features popular fiction meant to distract readers from the daily chores of life. This month we will read “Sweet Salt Air”, written by Barbara Delinsky.

WFPL Book Club

Let’s get ready for the Pensacola Opera’s, “La Traviata.” This month we’ll read the true story of the famous opera, “The Girl Who Loved Camellias: the Life and Legend of Marie Duplessis” by Julie Kavanagh.

Genre Chat Book Club

We’ll refocus on award winners in January with this fascinating read, “The Walk”, written by Genre award winning author, Richard Paul Evans.

Books to Film Tuesdays

R.E.A.D. to Dogs

  • Saturday, January 23, 10 a.m. - Southwest Branch Library, Meeting Room

Build confidence in literacy skills while reading to our canine partners who are certified therapy dogs. Sessions are free but registration is requested. Call Southwest Branch Library at (850) 453-7780 to reserve your half-hour time slot.

Are you curious about the newest operating system for Microsoft? Please join us for this introductory overview. Participants are encouraged to bring their Window 10 devices.

Word 2010 – Beyond the Basics

  • Tuesday, January 6, 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Participants will learn to insert WordArt, pictures and clipart into a newsletter format and create tables.

  • Thursday, January 7, 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Do you need a little assistance with a computer related task? Sign-up for this session and receive hands-on help.

Patrons will be introduced to the components of a computer and learn basic keyboard and mouse skills.

Basic Computer Skills II

  • Saturday, January 16, 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Participants will receive an introduction to Microsoft Windows and learn to navigate between different programs.

File Management

  • Wednesday, January 20, 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Participants will learn to find, save, copy, move and delete files and folders using the Microsoft Windows application, File Explorer.

Open Lab

  • Thursday, January 21, 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Do you need a little assistance with a computer related task? Sign-up for this session and receive hands-on help.

Intro to the Internet

  • Saturday, January 23, 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Participants will learn about web browsers, internet safety and navigation skills.

Transferring Pictures

  • Tuesday, January 26, 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Attendees will learn to move pictures from a phone, camera or tablet to a computer. Remember to bring your device and cords.

Email Basics

  • Saturday, January 30, 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Participants will learn to compose, send and receive email messages. We will cover different email providers and basic email security.

This workshop will help participants feel comfortable with the basic functions of a tablet. If you have one, please bring it.

All youth are invited to come build a Florida snowman at this craft program.

Microwave Mug Cake

  • Tuesday, January 12, 11:30 a.m. - Westside Branch Library

Do you know someone who is super busy? Give them an easy coffee cake recipe, ingredients and a mug. Put them all together and create a tasty microwave mug cake in two minutes. Come early, supplies are limited.

Topsy-Turvy Thursdays: Make-N-Take with the Modeleers

  • Thursday, January 14, 4 p.m. – Tryon Branch Library, Meeting Room A

Youth ages 8 and up are invited to build a model. Please sign up at Tryon Branch Library’s Children’s Desk, as space is limited or call (850) 471-6980. This program is sponsored by the Pensacola Modeleers and the Friends of West Florida Public Library.

Youth of all ages are invited to create a penguin pal out of recycled materials. All supplies provided for this adorable craft.

Crafternoon: Painter’s Tape Art

All ages are invited to create a 12x12 art project using a canvas, painter’s tape, and a great imagination.

Twisted Stitchers Yarn Club

Life-Size Clue: Teen Edition

Who committed the crime and with which weapon - was it Professor Plum in the conservatory with the lead pipe or Mrs. Peacock in the library with the candlestick? Teens are invited to become a human-playing piece in this life-size game of Clue.

West Florida Genealogical Society Monthly Meeting and Presentation: Archaeological Dig in Pace

Did you know there was an archaeological dig in Pace? Join this meeting of the WFGS for a presentation on the results of this revealing project presented by UWF PhD student, Katherine Sims.

Join us as Sandy Heaxt, of the Genealogy Library, discusses personal research and available resources for North Eastern genealogy.

Join us for a showing of “An American in Paris.” This 1951 Warner Bros. film is rated G with a runtime of 115 minutes.

Friends of Southwest Branch Library (FSWBL) Classic Movie Series

  • Thursday, January 7, 6 p.m. - Southwest Branch Library, Meeting Room

By popular vote, the fifth film in this twelve part series is "The Big Sleep", starring Humphrey Bogart & Lauren Bacall. This film is an adaptation of Raymond Chandler’s 1939 detective novel of the same title. This 1946 Warner Bros. picture is not rated and has a runtime of 114 minutes. Popcorn and bottled water will be served courtesy of FSWBL.

Group Hug Movie Night

Join us for a showing of “Age of Adaline.” This 2015 Lionsgate film is rated PG-13 with a runtime of 112 minutes.

Family Movie Night

  • Wednesday, January 13, 5 p.m. – Pensacola Library, Meeting Room B Let’s get together and watch the movie “Frozen.” This 2013 Disney movie is rated PG and has a 102 minute runtime.

Mythology

Mythosophy®: The Wisdom of Myth: Myths and Legends of China

  • Saturday, January 16, 10:30 a.m. - Pensacola Library, Meeting Room C

Mythosophy® presents selected themes from ancient China. Who was Lao Tzu? What is the Tao Te Ching? What is the significance of the Chinese New Year? This fascinating series is presented by Scott Davis, who earned his MA in humanities, religious studies and philosophy and is an adjunct professor at UWF.
