Escambia County Assists with Coastal Cleanup Efforts

For nearly three decades, volunteers with Ocean Conservancy’s International Coastal Cleanup have picked up everything imaginable along the world’s shorelines, including cigarette butts, food wrappers, abandoned fishing gear and even automobiles and kitchen appliances. Every September, Escambia County helps coordinate local coastal cleanup efforts to help keep our shorelines beautiful and safe.

This year's cleanup will take place tommorrow, September 19, at the following locations:

Park East/UWF Property

Place/Time: Parking Lot H, 8 a.m. to noon / Contact: Alexis Janosik, [email protected], (850) 857-6033 / Notes: Trash bags, gloves, data cards and water/soft drinks are provided volunteers, but it is still recommended to bring water. Please wear protective but light clothing (close-toed shoes, hat and sunglasses) and sunscreen. 

Park West

Place/Time: Park West Pavilions (gulf side), 8 a.m. to noon / Contact: Shauna Jones, [email protected], (850) 777-8655 / Notes: Trash bags and data cards are provided. Volunteers should bring plenty water. Please wear protective but light clothing (close-toed shoes, hat and sunglasses) and sunscreen.

Langdon Beach/Ft. Pickens

Place/Time: Langdon Beach Pavilion on Gulf Islands National Seashore (Ft. Pickens side), 9 a.m. to noon / Contact: Mike Aymond, [email protected], (850) 934-2634 / Notes: Trash bags and data cards are provided. Volunteers should bring plenty water. Please wear protective but light clothing (close-toed shoes, hat and sunglasses) and sunscreen. Entrance fees to the park will be waived for those here for the cleanup.

Johnson Beach/Perdido Key

Place/Time: Johnson Beach Pavilion on Gulf Islands National Seashore (Perdido Key side), 9 a.m. to noon / Contact: Mike Aymond, [email protected], (850) 934-2634 / Notes: Trash bags and data cards are provided. Volunteers should bring plenty water. Please wear protective but light clothing (close-toed shoes, hat and sunglasses) and sunscreen. Entrance fees to the park will be waived for those here for the cleanup.

Project Greenshores

Place/Time: Project Greenshores Parking lot (off of Bayfront Parkway, just before the 3-Mile Bridge), 8 a.m. to noon / Contact: Beth Fugate, [email protected], (850) 595-0683 / Notes: Trash bags and data cards are provided. Volunteers should bring plenty water. Please wear protective but light clothing (close-toed shoes, hat and sunglasses) and sunscreen.

Perdido Key State Park (Gulf Island to Alabama State Line)

Place/Time: Perdido Key State Park, West Pavilion, 8 a.m. to noon / Contact: Mae Dean, [email protected], (850) 982-5715 / Notes: Trash bags and data cards are provided. Volunteers should bring plenty water. Please wear protective but light clothing (close-toed shoes, hat and sunglasses) and sunscreen.
