R.E.A.D. to Dogs

Our free computer classes utilize desktop PCs and run Microsoft Windows 7 Professional.
Main Library
PowerPoint for Beginners
Participants will receive an introduction to the basics of Microsoft PowerPoint. They will learn to add and change the background, text and objects in a computerized slide show.
iPads and Tablets
This workshop will help participants feel comfortable with the basic functions of a tablet. If you have one, please bring it.
Excel 2010 Basics
Participants will learn how to navigate around a spreadsheet and acquire basic formatting skills in Microsoft Excel 2010.
Cloud Computing 101
You’ve heard of the cloud, but what is it? Participants in this session will look at cloud based applications and learn how easy and convenient cloud computing can be. Applications to be reviewed include Google Drive, Microsoft OneDrive and Dropbox.
Word 2010 Basics
In this class participants will learn to create a document using Microsoft Word 2010. We will explore tools on Microsoft’s Ribbon, like Spell Check and Grammar Check, as well as review how to print and save documents.
Publisher 2010 Basics
Participants will learn how to create greeting cards and flyers in Microsoft Publisher 2010.
Social Media 101
Participants will learn how to use some of the most popular social media networks such as Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, LinkedIn and Facebook.
Word 2010: Resume
This workshop will cover how to use Microsoft Word to easily create a professional looking resume with basic formatting tools. Students must have basic Word skills to attend this workshop.
Windows 8 Basics
Workshop attendees will become familiar with the new mosaic look of Microsoft Windows 8’s Modern user interface. Bring your Microsoft Windows 8 laptop or Surface tablet if you have one.

Youth ages 8 and up are invited to create an origami Yoda. “Do. Or do not. There is no try.†says master Yoda.
Topsy-Turvy Thursdays
Build a model of the space shuttle with the Pensacola Modeleers. Designed for ages 8 to 17, this program requires registration as space is limited. Sign up at Tryon Branch’s Youth Services Desk or call (850) 471-6980.
Crafty Kids
Join your friends at the library and personalize your own canvas tote bag. We’ll color on sandpaper and with adult supervision, iron on your original art work. Yarn Clubs
Twisted Stitchers Yarn Club
Join the Twisted Stitchers as we knit and crochet at the library. Currently we are paying it forward by making hats to donate to the Ronald McDonald House of Pensacola. All levels of experience from beginners to advanced are welcome.
Loopy Loomers
Come knit and crochet with the Westside Loopy Loomers. All skill levels are welcome to join in the creation of hats and scarves for the residents at Southern Oaks Nursing Home.
Really Knit Stuff
Knit and crochet at the library. All levels of experience from beginners to advanced are welcome. Bring an ongoing project or drop in and use our basic supplies to learn.

West Florida Genealogical Society Monthly Meeting and Presentation
Bert Outlaw, President of the WFGS, will present “They Are on the Census but Where Is Your Family?†by using census, tax records, plat maps and deeds to help locate landless ancestors.
Our Escambia County Communities, Past and Present: the Cantonment and Gonzalez Areas
Mrs. Priscilla Nobles is a past president of the West Florida Genealogical Society, Genealogy Library volunteer and a longtime resident of the Cantonment and Gonzalez area. She will share with us the rich histories of these communities.

Friends of Southwest Branch Library (FSWBL) Classic Movie Series
The voting results are in and the first film in this series is “Roman Holiday†starring Audrey Hepburn and Gregory Peck. This 1953 Paramount Pictures film is not rated and has a 119 minute runtime. Popcorn and bottled water will be served courtesy of FSWBL.
Group Hug Movie Night
Join us for a showing of “Jupiter Ascendingâ€. This Warner Bros. film starring Channing Tatum and Mila Kunis is rated PG-13 with a runtime of 125 minutes.
Teen Movie Matinee
Teens, ages 10 to 18 are invited to a viewing of “Into the Woodsâ€. This Walt Disney Pictures film is rated PG with a runtime of 124 minutes. Pizza and bottled water will be served courtesy of FSWBL.
After School Movie
