Next Phase of I-10 Improvements Begin This Month

Published Aug 14, 2015

Construction work began in 2013 to widen I-10 between State Road (S.R.) 291 (Davis Highway) and U.S. 90 (Scenic Highway) in Escambia County and to build a new, wider Scenic Highway overpass. Work on the project continues today with completion slated for fall 2016.

In August 2015, interstate construction activities will move eastward into Santa Rosa County. Plans call for a $38.6 million construction project to widen I-10 from four to six travel lanes from the eastern end of the Escambia Bay Bridge to east of the S.R. 281 (Avalon Boulevard) interchange. The Avalon Boulevard overpass and associated I-10 on- and off-ramps will also be widened.

Additional elements of the work include constructing new curbs, gutters and sidewalks on Avalon Boulevard, new highway lighting, drainage improvements and constructing stormwater retention ponds.

Construction activities will begin on I-10 near the Escambia Bay Bridge and move east toward Avalon Boulevard. The work is scheduled for completion in summer 2017.
