The Escambia County UF/IFAS Extension is hosting a rain barrel workshop on Tuesday, August 18, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at the Bayview Senior Center (2000 E. Lloyd Street, Pensacola). The workshop will consist of a short presentation on water quality and conservation, with paid participants building a rain barrel to take home at the end of the event.
Since 2008, more than 350 homeowners, teachers and students in Escambia County have built rain barrels as part of Extension-led workshops. Using rain barrels in a home landscape can save a single homeowner up to 1,300 gallons of water annually. The barrels that will be built by workshop participants are 60 gallons and can fit in a typical car.
Cost for supplies is $60, although it is free to listen and watch. Pre-registration is required by Friday, August 14, to insure supplies are available on the day of the event. Barrels are limited, so visit the online registration site HERE to reserve your spot. If you prefer not to pay online, payment by cash or check made out to the “Escambia County 4-H Foundation” can be mailed or dropped off at the Extension Office (3740 Stefani Road, Cantonment) Monday through Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
