West Florida Genealogical Society Meeting and Presentation

  • Saturday, May 2, 11 a.m. – Genealogy Branch, Meeting Room

Mr. Thomas MacEntee will present My Genealogy Do-Over: A Year of Learning from Reseach Mistakes.

Twisted Stitchers

  • Tuesday, May 5, 6 p.m. – Molino Branch

Whether you love to knit, crochet or loom knit, join yarners of all ages and skill levels as we sit and stitch. Be sure to bring your current yarn project or supplies needed to practice your skills.

Make-n-Take

  • Thursday, May 7, 4:30 p.m. – Main Library, Meeting Room C

Want to fly a space shuttle? Youth ages 8 to 17 may build and keep their own model of one. Please sign up at the Children's Desk, as space is limited. This program is sponsored by the Pensacola Modeleers and the Friends of West Florida Public Library.

Passport Pals

  • Saturday, May 9, 10:30 a.m. – Main Library, Meeting Room C

Join the Passport Pals as we travel to Australia. What do Australian children eat? What kind of animals live there? Come find out, experience it here and get your passport stamped. This engaging program on global diversity is designed for youth of all ages.

Crafternoon

  • Saturday, May 9, 1 p.m. – Westside Branch

Come craft your afternoon away with friends at the Westside Branch Library. Create your own travel game for the long ride. Space is limited and registration is required.

Movie Night For Grown-ups

  • Tuesday, May 12, 5 p.m. – Tryon Branch, Meeting Room A

Attend a viewing of The Avengers. Rated PG-13, 143 minutes.

  • Tuesday, May 12, 6 p.m. – Molino Branch, Auditorium

Attend a viewing of Argo.  Starring Ben Affleck, Alan Arkin and John Goodman. Rated R, 120 minutes.

Teen PARADOX

  • Wednesday, May 13, 5 p.m. – Tryon Branch, Meeting Room A

Short Story writing workshop. Come let your creative juices flow in an unfiltered setting.

May Flowers for Children

Bring in the spring and create a pretty bouquet of tissue flowers to brighten your room. Children of all ages are welcome.

Tabletop Game Night

More than Monopoly. New and exciting tabletop games for everyone. Check out fun games such as Settlers of Catan, Ticket to Ride, miniatures and more. Fun for the whole family.

American Girl Book Club

  • Saturday, May 16, 2 p.m. – Southwest Branch, Meeting Room

Participants will receive the book Meet Kaya and explore the world of the Native American girl through crafts, games, and activities. Registration required. For girls ages 7-13.

In the Kitchen with Jamie & Wendy

  • Monday, May 18, 4 p.m. – Tryon Branch, Meeting Room A

Learn healthy eating and lifestyle habits as a family. This program is in partnership with the Escambia County Extension Service and is designed for all family members.

Genre Chat Book Discussion

  • Monday, May 18, 6 p.m. – Molino Branch

Join us for an in-depth discussion about a different genre each month. We’ll explore the books’ structures, plots, themes and characters.  The Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness, Genre: Fantasy

Group Hug

Front Porch Games

Introducing Front Porch Game Night at the library. Every third Tuesday of the month starting in May. Come and play Checkers, Chess, Backgammon, Monopoly, cards, etc. Feel free to bring some of your own games from home and start a group.

WFPL Book Club

The Other Irish: Scotch-Irish or is it Scots-Irish

Really Knit Stuff

Books to Film Book Club

Join others in a rousing discussion of a literary work that is the precursor to a movie. May’s book is A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini.

Art Exhibits

Red and White, Then and Now: A quilt exhibit created by the Perdido Sew Gals, a local chapter of the Pensacola Quilters Guild

GED Classes

  • Weekly on Monday and Thursday, 6 p.m. – Molino Branch

Students need to take the TABE and fill out the online application to enroll: http://bit.ly/1q5WAK9. Cost for GED class is $30 per semester. Semesters run the same as Escambia County Schools.

Saturday Chess Club for Children

  • Weekly on Saturday, 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. – Tryon Branch

Learn to play chess for ages 8-17.

Saturday Chess Club for Adults

  • Weekly on Saturday, 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. – Tryon Branch

Learn to play chess for ages 18 and up.

R.E.A.D. to Dogs

Build your reading confidence while reading to our doggy literacy partners. Registration is requested.

Story Time for Children

This combined Story Time merges both our lapsit and Story Time in May.

Computer Classes for Adults

Main Library

  • Basic Computer Skills I – Tuesday, May 5 – 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

This class will introduce participants to the components of a computer along with basic keyboard and mouse skills.

  • Introduction to the Internet – Wednesday, May 6 – 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Participants will learn the basics of exploring the internet, navigation, browsers and internet safety.

  • Email Basics – Wednesday, May 9 – 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Participants will learn to compose, send and receive email messages and attachments. The class will also cover basic email security.

  • Basic Computer Skills II – Tuesday, May 12 – 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

This workshop will introduce participants to the Microsoft Windows environment including navigating between different programs.

  • Publisher 2010 Basics – Saturday, May 16 – 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Microsoft Publisher is a great program for creating greeting cards, flyers and more.  Join us as we create a personalized greeting card.

  • Introduction to the Internet – Tuesday, May 19 – 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Participants will learn the basics of exploring the internet, navigation, browsers and internet safety.

  • Email Basics – Wednesday, May 20 – 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Participants will learn to compose, send and receive email messages and attachments. The class will also cover basic email security.

  • Facebook Basics – Wednesday, May 27 – 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m.

This workshop is designed for beginners who would like to learn how to create a Facebook profile, add and remove friends, upload photos, share posts, and more.

  • PowerPoint 2010 for Beginners – Saturday, May 30 – 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Participants will receive an introduction to the basics of PowerPoint.  They will learn to add and change the background, text, and objects in a computerized slide show.

Century Branch

  • File Management – Thursday, May 14 – 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

In this workshop participants will learn how to find, save, copy, move, and delete files and folders using File Explorer

  • Email Basics – Thursday, May 28 – 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Participants will learn to compose, send and receive email messages and attachments. The class will also cover basic email security.

Southwest Branch

  • Introduction to the Internet – Thursday, May 14 – 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Participants will learn the basics of exploring the internet, navigation, browsers and internet safety.

  • Transferring Photos – Thursday, May 28 – 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Participants will learn to move photos from their phone, camera or tablet to the computer.  Reminder:  bring your device and cords.
