Escambia County Awarded Funding to Assist with Crescent Lake Repairs

Published Feb 12, 2015

The Crescent Lake area will receive funding from the Emergency Watershed Protection Program (EWPP) to assist with the restoration of Crescent Lake and dam repairs. The area received extensive damage as a result of the breaching and destruction of the Crescent Lake dam during the April 29, 2014 flooding event.

Following the storm Escambia County, working with Senator Bill Nelson, Congressman Jeff Miller and the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), completed and approved a plan for the restoration of the dam and Crescent Lake. While the project was deemed eligible and subsequently submitted to the EWPP, The County was initially informed that funding was not available. The Crescent Lake project was at that time placed on a wait list for future funding.

The County has been informed that the EWPP was appropriated funds and several of the projects submitted, including Crescent Lake, will be funded. Funding is expected to be available in the next few weeks. A Crescent Lake community meeting will be held tonight beginning at 7:30 p.m. at Heritage Baptist Church, 2200 Michigan Ave.
