New Corrections Director Begins Work

Escambia County’s new Corrections Director, Michael Tidwell, officially began working for Escambia County today.

As Director, Tidwell will oversee Community Corrections, Probations, Jail, Pretrial, Code Enforcement, Animal Control and the Road Prison. He replaces former director Gordon Pike, who retired in November.

Most recently, Tidwell served as Chief Corrections Deputy for Orleans Parish, Louisiana. With more than 30 years experience, Tidwell has been also employed as Director of Orange County, Florida, Corrections Department; Jail Director for Seminole County, Florida; Corrections Director for Osceola County, Florida; and has management experience at organizations nationwide. He received his Master’s Degree in Human Services from Lincoln University and is a Certified Jail Manager and Certified Corrections Executive.

The screening committee for this position was comprised of Escambia County Administrator Jack Brown, Pensacola Chief of Police Chip Simmons, Escambia County Sheriff's Office Chief Deputy Eric Haines, Trial Court Administrator Robin Wright and Taylor County Chief Deputy Richard Johnson, who is also a member of the Florida Model Jail Inspections group.
