December Events at West Florida Public Libraries

Highlighted Programs: Santa Visits the Library

An Evening With Santa

  • Thursday, December 11, 6 p.m. – Southwest Branch

Santa and Mrs. Claus will sing Jingle Bells, pose for photos and each child will receive a free book.

 

Pajama Story Time With Santa

  • Monday, December 15, 6 p.m. – Molino Branch

Wear your cozy pajamas, bring your blankets and join us for caroling, Christmas stories, milk and cookies and a visit from Santa himself. This will be a great photo opportunity, so parents, be sure to bring your cameras.

 

Santa Visits Story Time

  • Tuesday, December 16, 10:30 a.m. – Southwest Branch

Santa and Mrs. Claus will sing Jingle Bells, pose for photos and greet each child. (recommended for preschool age children)

 

Little Santa’s Holiday Party

  • Tuesday, December 16, 6 p.m. – Main Library

Ever wonder how Santa Claus came to be? Children will decorate a holiday cookie, enjoy carols with the Pensacola Choral Society and learn the backstory of the jolly ol' elf from the man himself!

 

Meet Santa and Sing Carols

  • Thursday, December 18, 4 p.m. – Tryon Branch

Meet Santa, sing carols and enjoy holiday treats.

 

Christmas With Santa

  • Thursday, December 18, 6 p.m. – Century Branch

Enjoy a story, cookies and a visit with Santa Claus. Each child will receive a gift from Santa.

 

Classic Movie Night

  • Thursday, December 4, 6 p.m. – Southwest Branch                                                                    

A Christmas Story (1983, Melinda Dillon and Darren McGavin, 98 minutes, PG)  

 

Genealogical Society Meeting and Program

  • Saturday, December 6, 10 a.m. – Genealogy Library

Mrs. Jackie Wilson from the Pensacola Historic Trust will be the guest speaker.

 

A Winter Wonderland Crafternoon Special

  • Saturday, December 6, 1 p.m. – Main Library, Children’s Craft Room

Be one of the first dozen children age 8 or older to sign up at the Children’s desk and you’ll get to make your own winter wonderland snow globe.

 

Topsy-Turvy Tuesdays

  • Tuesday, December 9, 4 p.m. – Tryon Branch

Elementary age children are invited to join Miss Martha to discuss Elvis and the Underdogs by Jenny Lee.

 

Teen Paradox Group

  • Wednesday, December 10, 5 p.m. – Tryon Branch

Get together with other budding writers and work on some fun short story activities.

 

Outside the Box: Gift Wrapping 101

  • Thursday, December 11, 4:30 p.m. – Main Library, Children’s Craft Room

Come to our hands-on gift wrap lab where we'll reveal tips and tricks to disguise all types of treasures!

 

Family Movie Matinee

  • Saturday, December 13, 11 a.m. – Southwest Branch

The Polar Express, rated G, 100 minutes

 

Winter Holiday Party

  • Saturday, December 13, 12 p.m. – Westside Branch

Listen to festive stories and make a holiday craft at our annual holiday party!

 

In the Kitchen with Jamie and Wendy

  • Monday, December 15, 4 p.m. – Tryon Branch

Learn about good food choices as a family. Cooking demonstrations and a present to take home.

 

Group Hug Series

  • Monday, December 15, 6 p.m. – Tryon Branch

This adult program will feature the local community group, doTERRA, and an introduction to the healing oils of the Bible.

 

Movie Night for Grown-ups

  • Tuesday, December 16, 5 p.m. – Tryon Branch

The Nightmare Before Christmas, 76 minutes, rated PG

 

Adult Book Discussion

  • Wednesday, December 17, 10:30 a.m. – Main Library

Join us to discuss Donna Tartt's Pulitzer Prize-winning novel, The Goldfinch.

 

Make Christmas Ornaments and Wreaths

  • Wednesday, December 17, 11 a.m. – Genealogy Library

 

Make ‘n’ Take

  • Thursday, December 18, 6 p.m. – Southwest Branch

Make your own loom potholder.

 

Cartoon Matinee

  • Saturday, December 20, 11 a.m. – Southwest Branch

Cartoon movies to be shown: Polar Express, Winnie the Pooh and the Blustery Day, Scooby Doo Where Are You Series, Superman the Animated Series and Looney Tunes.  Each child receives free popcorn and bottled water. Special thanks to the Friends of the Southwest Branch.

 

Kids R.E.A.D. to Dogs

  • Saturday, December 20, 10 a.m. – Tryon Branch

Build your reading confidence while reading to our doggy literacy partners.  Sign up is requested.

 

Adult Book Discussion

Fall GED Classes

  • Weekly on Monday and Thursday, 6 p.m. – Molino Branch

Students need to take the TABE and fill out the online application to enroll: http://bit.ly/1q5WAK9. Cost for GED class is $30 per semester and semesters run the same as Escambia County Schools.

 

Family Game Night

  • Weekly on Monday, 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. – Main Library

 

Saturday Chess Club

  • Weekly on Saturday (through December 20), 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. – Tryon Branch

Learn to play chess for ages 8 to 14.
