FDEP, FWC Launch Online Map of Oil Spill-Funded Projects

Published Sep 18, 2014

The Florida Department of Environmental Protection, along with Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, recently launched an interactive map of projects in the Panhandle that have been complete, are underway or have been approved for funding. The online map should help keep the public informed about of dollars generated from BP and Transocean-paid fines is being spent and on what.

Most of the projects on the map so far have been paid for with nearly $12 million in Natural Resource Damage Assessment early restoration money BP paid in advance of a full assessment of the oil spill damage for which it is liable. This pot of money is commonly referred to as NRDA dollars.
