West Florida Public Library Locations

Please note all WFPL locations will be closed on Monday, September 1, in observance of the Labor Day holiday.
Additionally, all WFPL locations will be closed Monday, September 22, and Tuesday, September 23. During this time the libraries will undergo a new software migration featuring expanded services to better serve the community. All WFPL staff will receive training on these days.
While the libraries will be closed, patrons will be able to view the WFPL website, MyWFPL.com, and online databases accessible through the library system.
Library Card Sign Up Month
The West Florida Public Library System joins libraries across the nation in celebrating September as Library Card Sign up Month. Libraries are a valuable resource in our community offering services as varied as story time hours to expose young minds to the joy of reading and hands-on instruction in computer usage, as well as free access to books, magazines, CDs and DVDs.
Residents of Escambia County or active duty service members living in Escambia County can obtain a library card for the West Florida Public Library System free of charge.
September Events at West Florida Public Libraries
Art Exhibit
Hanging exhibit: Molly Cleary, local Pensacola artist and former guidance counselor at Molino Elementary School.
Display case: John King, Molino Mid-County Historical Society, will be displaying his collection of stamps.
Mystery Book Month
Come engage your powers of observation! Each library has disguised a book for each day in September that will be hidden in the Children’s Department. Find the “mystery” book and win a prize.
Design a Bookmark
Design a bookmark with original artwork measuring 2” x 8” and submit your work to the Tryon Branch Library between September 2 and September 27. The winning bookmark will be printed and distributed at the Tryon Branch in October.
Rules: Participants must be between the ages of 12 and 17; digital art must be submitted as an Adobe Illustrator, InDesign or .jpeg files with 300 dpi; and submissions must be emailed as an attachment to [email protected] with the subject line stating “Bookmark Design” or as a hardcopy to the Children’s Desk.
TABE Testing
This one-time only TABE (Test of Adult Basic Education) test is mandatory to enroll for Fall
GED classes. To take the TABE test, enroll today at the Molino Branch. On this day and at this location only, testing is free of charge for students 18 and older.
Fall GED Classes
Students need to take the TABE and fill out the online application to enroll: http://bit.ly/1q5WAK9. Cost for GED class is $30 per semester and semesters run the same as Escambia County Schools.
Family Game Night
Crafternoons
Children 8 and older are welcome to make crafts at the Main Library each month.
West Florida Genealogical Society Monthly Meeting
This month, we will discuss Picasa, a free application program available from Google that allows you to edit, organize and enhance your genealogy photos without disturbing the original photograph. It also includes face recognition software which can assist in identifying unknown pictures you may have.
Summer Make ‘n’ Take
Children ages 8 and older are welcome to come make a model of their own with the Pensacola Modeleers. This program is free of charge and space is limited.
Paradox Teen Book Club
This month's teen program will be a discussion of Ashes by Ilsa Bick.
Saturday Chess Club
Author Visit: Kevin Miller
Local author Captain Kevin Miller is a 24-year veteran of the U.S. Navy and Pensacola resident. Join us to discuss his book, Raven One.
Water Fun Program
Kids ages 4 to 12 can beat the heat at the library with water balloons and other fun outdoor activities.
Origami for Adults
Meet with us each month as we make origami at the Tryon Branch.
Movie Night for Grown-ups
This month's movie is Divergent; rated PG-13 with a run time of 139 minutes.
Book Discussion Group
Join us to discuss Helene Wecker's debut novel The Golem and the Jinni. This group will meet each month.
Special Sports Storytime
Children ages 2 to 8 and their adults can enjoy an evening of sports related stories and fun.
Resources for Returning Veterans
Rebecca Baisden will introduce returning veterans to the wide range of Veteran's Administration (VA) benefits available to them, including eBenefits, educational, health, vocational rehabilitation, and the VetSuccess on Campus (VSOC) Program.
American Girl Book Club
Girls ages 6 to 12 will learn about American life through the experiences of Caroline in 1812 America by exploring different activities from the time period, such as making butter and playing simple games. Advance registration is requested.
Kids: R.E.A.D. to the Dogs
With The Kids: Reading Educational Assistance Dogs (R.E.A.D.) program, your child can improve his or her reading skills by practicing reading to therapy dogs.
Decorate Your Shoes
Children will have the opportunity to decorate their tennis shoes.
Author Visit: Chris Warner
Local author Chris Warner will discuss his writing technique, experience, his books and SEC football.
Author Visit: Tim Dorsey
Author and former Tampa Tribune reporter Tim Dorsey will discuss his latest book, Tiger Shrimp Tango, which was published in July 2014.
The Big Read: Book Discussion
We will kick off the Big Read festivities at the Molino Branch with a visit from presented Wen Livingston who will discuss The Things They Carried by Tim O’Brien, the featured book of The Big Read.

‘The Big Read’ is Coming to Escambia County
In May it was proudly announced that the West Florida Public Library System had received a grant of $15,000 to host The Big Read program.
The West Florida Public Library is one of 77 nonprofit organizations to receive a grant to host The Big Read project between September 2014 and June 2015. The Big Read in Escambia County will focus on The Things They Carried, Tim O’Brien’s novel about the lasting impact of the Vietnam War. O’Brien will come to Escambia County to launch The Big Read activities in October.
