Dignitaries, staff, volunteers and members of the Escambia County community gathered at the Escambia County Animal Shelter on March 4 to celebrate the facility’s new surgical wing.
Funded by Local Option Sales Tax (L.O.S.T.) dollars, the new $350,000 surgical wing features a surgery suite with two operating tables, laboratory, dog and cat surgery preparation and recovery rooms, wash station, laundry, food preparation and veterinarian office space. Covering 13,000 square feet and built with new surgical cost saving technologies, the additional space will allow for a shorter wait time for new adoptive families or those who qualify for the *low cost spay and neuter program.
Escambia County is committed to working in partnership with the community to create a safe, healthy and caring environment for both citizens and animals, promoting citizen safety, responsible pet ownership and education in the reduction of animal over population.
