The Escambia County Board of County Commissioners has extended The State of Emergency in Escambia County for another seven days.
Governor Rick Scott has issued a request for a major disaster declaration to President Obama (attached below).
The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Florida Division of Emergency Management (DEM) have completed their Individual Assistance Preliminary Damage Assessment of damage caused to privately owned homes, business and property as a result of the recent floods in Escambia County. Preliminary totals include:
Individual damage assessments to public infrastructure such as roads and drainage/storm water systems are estimated at $20 million, however County engineers are continuing to assess damage and that figure is expected to rise.
County Operations
All Escambia County operations are functioning normally during their regularly scheduled business hours, however the Escambia County Central Booking facility is closed indefinitely and the Extension Wind Mitigation Building is closed until further notice.
All Parks and Recreation facilities in the County have been reopened, except Myrtle Grove Athletic Fields remain closed for repairs.
Escambia County Jail Update
The Escambia County CIC have fielded more than 5,000 phone calls pertaining to inmate status and County staff are working towards finding mid- to long-term solutions for temporary housing of inmates. All inmates who were housed at Central Booking who asked for medical treatment have received care. Booking of incoming inmates is being conducted at the Main Jail, 2935 North L Street, Pensacola; however video visitation is suspended until further notice.
A kiosk is available at the Main Jail so money can be deposited to inmate accounts and families may visit www.MyCarePack.com to purchase items for inmates including clothing, food items, phone cards and more by selecting “Florida” and “Escambia” on the home page.
Money orders may be sent to inmates at the Escambia County Road Camp, 601 Highway 297-A, Cantonment, and staff continues to work to establish commissary rights for those in the work release program and phone privileges.

The Citizens Information Center (CIC) remains open for calls 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at (850) 471-6600.
Identified as one of the areas with the most standing water, a 10,000 gallon vacuum truck has been rented by the County to supplement existing equipment to drain standing water in an effort to relieve the Ponderosa area in District 5.

In response to flooding within the Panhandle, the Florida Department of Children and Families (DCF) issued the May distribution of food assistance benefits to all recipients at 12 a.m. last evening. The intent is to ensure that storm-impacted customers have an adequate food supply during the disaster recovery period. The advance distribution applies only to participants of the regular food assistance program in the affected counties. By issuing May benefits early in the month, current food assistance recipients will be able to access their benefits by using their Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) card.
Food assistance customers in the affected counties who lost their food as a result of the flooding can apply to receive replacement food assistance benefits by visiting a local service center (www.dcf.state.fl.us/access/CPSLookup/search.aspx), or by calling (866) 762-2237 for more information.
