Fizz, Boom, Read Program

Children and teens up to age 17 are invited to participate in WFPL’s 2014 Fizz, Boom, Read program, which focuses on experimenting with STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics).

This interactive program is a fun way for students to keep their minds sharp throughout the summer months. Join us for our summer reading game and interactive enrichment programs where you can win prizes for reading books, partake in science experiments and meet new people.

Registration begins Saturday, May 3, at any West Florida Public Library locationThe program begins June 3 through August 9.

Book Clubs

  •  Adult Book Group

Held on the third Wednesday of each month, 10:30 a.m., Main Library

      The following books will be read:

o   April 16 -The Cuckoo’s Calling by Robert Galbraith

o   May 21 - Life After Life by Kate Atkinson

o   June 18 - The Signature of All Things by Elizabeth Gilbert

o   July 16 - The English Girl by Daniel Silva

o   August 20 - Lowland by Jhumpa Lahiri 

 

  • American Girl Book Club (preregistered girls ages 7 to 13)

Held monthly on the third Saturday, 2 p.m., Southwest Branch

 

  • Books to Film Book Club (Adults)

Held monthly on the fourth Tuesday, 6 p.m., Tryon Branch

 

  •  Kids R.E.A.D. to the Dogs

Held monthly on the third Saturday, 10 a.m., Tryon Branch; and monthly on the fourth Saturday, 10 a.m., Southwest Branch

o   The Reading Education Assistance Dogs (R.E.A.D.) program improves children's reading and communication skills by reading to a dog. R.E.A.D. dogs are registered therapy animals who volunteer with their owner/handlers as a team, going to schools, libraries and many other settings as reading companions for children. The mission of the R.E.A.D. program is to improve the literacy skills of children through the assistance of registered therapy teams as literacy mentors.

  • GED Class, Molino Branch – 6 to 7 p.m.

Saturday, April 19

  • KIDS: Read to the Dogs, Tryon Branch – 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
  • Sensory Play Saturday, Main Library – 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.
  • Author Visit: Tracy Minnis, Southwest Branch – 11 a.m. to 12 p.m.
  • Book Club: American Girl, Southwest Branch – 2 to 3 p.m.
  • Storytime, Westside Branch – 2 to 3 p.m.
