Special Events

  • Saturday, April 5, 10:30 a.m. - Saturday Morning Cartoons
    • Children ages 5 to 12 and their families are welcome to come watch Scooby-Doo and have “Scooby Snacks.” Arrive dressed as your favorite character or wear your pajamas. The cartoons are rated G.
  • Monday, April 7, 4 p.m. - Pensacola Opera presents Little Red's Most Unusual Day
    • Children ages 5 to 12 and their families are welcome to enjoy this storybook brought to life in the large meeting room of the Main Library.
  • Wednesday, April 9, 4 p.m. - Make ‘n’ Take Workshop
    • The Pensacola Modeleers are presenting a Make ‘n’ Take workshop for children ages 8 and older to build a model F-14. There is no charge for the class or the model kit, but quantities are limited.
  • Tuesday, April 22, 6 p.m. - Family Movie Night: Earth Day Edition
    • In celebration of Earth Day, please join us for a special Family Movie Night screening of Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax! Children and their families are welcome. This film is rated PG.

  • Adult Book Group - third Wednesday of each month beginning Wednesday, April 16, 10:30 a.m., Main Library

Join the group for an ongoing book discussion group where we will read the following books:

  • Thursday, April 17, 4 p.m. – Special Crafternoon
    • Celebrate National Library Week by checking out books and utilizing all that the library has to offer. Join us for our special T-shirt Tote Crafternoon and turn your old t-shirts into one-of-a-kind book totes. Free t-shirts will be provided for the first 15 registered attendees only. Please register for this special event in the Children’s Department at the Main Library or by calling (850) 436-5038. Children ages 7 and older are welcome.
  • Wednesday, April 23, 6 p.m. - The Bard’s Birthday Bash
    • Teens are invited to eat a piece of cake and enjoy a movie to celebrate the birthday of William Shakespeare by watching “10 Things I Hate About You,” based on The Taming of the Shrew. This film is rated PG-13.

    • Children ages 10 and under are invited to sit with the Easter Bunny while listening to a fun story, eat treats and make a craft to take home.

Special Events

  • Wednesday, April 2, to Saturday, April 5 (hours vary) - Scholastic Book Fair
    • The Book Fair will be open Wednesday, April 2 and 3 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and April 4 and 5 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Funds raised will help with the library’s 2014 Summer Reading Club. The community is invited to attend this fun reading event that helps inspire children to become lifelong readers. The Book Fair offers specially priced books and educational products, including popular series, award-winning titles, new releases, adult bestsellers and other great reads from more than 100 publishers.
  • Saturday, April 5, 12 to 3 p.m. - Molino Branch’s One Year Anniversary Celebration
    • Join the West Florida Public Library in celebrating the first anniversary of the Molino Branch. Local groups will be in attendance including the Escambia County Sherriff’s Office, Molino Fire Department, Molino Historical Society, local authors and more. The Dogwood Dulcimer Association will provide music and anniversary cake will be available for attendees to enjoy.
  • Monday, April 14, 6 p.m. - Pajama Storytime with the Easter Bunny
    • Children are invited to wear their pajamas to enjoy stories and have pictures taken with the Easter Bunny.

  • Saturday, April 12, 11 a.m. - Author Visit:  Phyllis Brown Hain
    • Book signing and discussion of her book Diamond in the Saturday Dark
  • Wednesday, April 16, 11 a.m. - Pictures with the Easter Bunny
    • Children and their parents are welcome to have a photo made with the Easter Bunny. Each participant will also receive a small giveaway.
  • Now through Saturday, April 19, during normal business hours - Egg Hunt
    • Several brightly-colored "eggs" are hidden about the Children's Department at the Southwest Branch Library.  Children are invited to find all of the eggs to receive a bookmark.
  • Saturday, April 19, 11 a.m. - Author Visit: Tracy Minnis
    • Book Signing and discussion of her book Eating, Exercise in Alignment With Your Hormones.
  • Tuesday, April 22, 10:30 a.m. - Special Earth Day Storytime
    • Stories will focus on good stewardship of our planet and each child will go home with a flowering plant.
  • Tuesday, April 15, 10:30 a.m. - Special Storytime, A Teddy Bear’s Picnic
    • A Teddy Bear's Picnic storytime will also feature stories, music, movement rhymes and snacks. Children are encouraged to bring along their favorite stuffed animal.

    • Children ages 5 to 12 and their families are welcome to enjoy this storybook brought to life in the large meeting room of the Main Library.
  • Tuesday, April 15, 5 p.m. - Making Friends Across Many Lands
    • During National Library Week the West Florida Public Library is celebrating friendship and goodwill across the world.  Jena Melancon, Executive Director of The Gulf Coast Citizen Diplomacy Council, and Oscar Lopez, Local Coordinator for NW Services, Inc. PEACE Program Promoting Education and Cultural Exchange, will join us to share how you can take part in meeting and greeting visitors from other countries, how to become a host family to a teen and upcoming activities for cultural exchange in Pensacola.  In addition, world traveler Patricia McGraw will share her stories of making friends in foreign lands.

    • Join us to celebrate spring with fun crafts with flowers.
