The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) has canceled the Theo Baars Bridge painting project on State Road 292 (Perdido Key Drive) over the Intracoastal Waterway (ICWW) in Escambia County.
An agreement to cancel the contract came after FDOT District Three Secretary Tommy Barfield and Escambia County Commissioner Gene Valentino met this morning to discuss the project.
In order to determine the appropriate timeframe to commence work on the project, FDOT will seek the opinion of the community at a public meeting tentatively scheduled for Thursday, May 15. FDOT will then issue a new contract and program the project in the department’s five year work program.
Lane restrictions will remain in place over the next few days to allow the contractor to demobilize the operation. While there will be minimal disruptions, motorists are reminded to pay attention to the speed limit when traveling through the construction area and to use caution when driving in work zones.
