National Invasive Species Awareness Week Workday at Navy Point

Published Mar 4, 2014

The Six Rivers Cooperative Invasive Species Management Area (CISMA) is celebrating National Invasive Species Awareness Week with a series of events in Escambia and surrounding counties in conjunction with University of Florida IFAS Extension.  The workdays are being held in an effort to remove invasive species from public lands.

Tomorrow, March 5, a workday will take place in Escambia County from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Navy Point Linear Park, 120 West Sunset Avenue, Pensacola.

Invasive species are non-native or exotic species that do not naturally occur in an area and cause economic or environmental harm.  These invasive species have been the number one threat to biodiversity on protected lands.  Northwest Florida is home to many unique habitats, including upland, wetland and marine.  One of the most effective ways to control invasive species is by prevention and becoming invasive aware.
