West Florida Public Library to Host "Blacks in Literature and Film: A Frank and Casual Conversation"

In celebration of Black History Month, the West Florida Public Library will host a round table discussion on the topic of “Blacks in Literature and Film: A Frank and Casual Conversation” on Monday, February 24, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the Main Library, 239 North Spring Street, Pensacola. \r\n \r\nHosts Robin Reshard, an interviewer and Creative Director of Robert Robino Productions, and Mamie Webb Hixon, Assistant Professor of English at the University of West Florida, will engage the audience and a panel of authors, filmmakers, educators, cultural experts and the media in a casual and guided conversation about portrayals of African Americans in books, television, movies and the performing arts. This multimedia event provides a unique opportunity to explore how changing social themes, issues and perceptions have been documented through the years.\r\n\r\nThe Friends of West Florida Public Library invite the public to enjoy refreshments at a reception at 6:30 p.m. and the conversation will begin at 7 p.m. Both the reception and event are free and open to the public.
