Residents Advised to Avoid Contact With Crescent Lake After ECUA Sewer Overflow

Published Feb 2, 2014

Today, Escambia County received notice from the Florida Department of Environmental of Protection that an unknown amount of raw sewage had been released from an Emerald Coast Utilities Authority (ECUA) sanitary sewer line. The spill, which occured in the area of East Shore Drive and Cranbrook Avenue at 10:49 a.m. this morning, discharged untreated waste material into a storm drain that flows into Crescent Lake. At approximately 1:30 pm, ECUA reported the amount of sewage spilled at 2,975 gallons.

Water Quality experts from the Escambia County Community & Environment Department are advising residents to avoid contact with Crescent Lake until water samples taken by the Department of Health deems it safe.
