The National Weather Service is forecasting light freezing rain through noon for the north half of Escambia County. The next forecast briefing meeting with the National Weather Service will be at 12 p.m.
Right now, the forecast is calling for freezing rain to move south through Escambia County throughout the afternoon. The freezing rain could cause ice formation on some local bridges and roads, which is why County leaders are asking people to stay home today.
Tonight, the forecasters believe we will see snow fall in the north half of the County and a mix of sleet and snow south of Interstate 10 through midnight. Local roadways may seem safe this morning, but conditions could worsen throughout the day.
The Escambia County Road Department is standing by with approximately 25 employees ready to respond to a variety of road issues. The Road Department has ten trucks filled with sand that can be deployed to combat ice on County roadways. These crews will also be able to respond to downed trees that may obstruct roads.
