Prescribed Burn in Jones Swamp Thursday

Published Jan 23, 2014

Dark smoke may be visible in the air over southwest corner of Escambia County today, January 23, as the County's Natural Resources Conservation Division conducts a prescribed burn in the Jones Swamp Preserve. The burn is being conducted by a certified prescribed burn contractor with assistance from the Florida Forest Service.

The prescribed burn is expected to only last for one day. Crews will be on site to monitor the situation on Thursday and Friday, and people may see smoke from the Jones Swamp Preserve on both days. This project is designed to restore the natural ecology of the Jones Swamp Preserve and reduce the danger of wildfires.
