West Florida Public Library Presents "Belmont-DeVilliers: The Making of a Neighborhood"

Published Dec 2, 2013

As part of the Explore Pensacola History lecture series, the West Florida Public Library presents “Belmont-DeVilliers: The Making of a Neighborhood.”

Filmmaker Robin Reshard will host this special event on Thursday, December 5, from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Main Library, 239 North Spring Street.

Founded in the late 1800s, the Belmont-DeVilliers neighborhood blended Spanish, Creole, French and African influences into a uniquely American community. Explore the history of this vibrant community from its beginnings as an enclave of progressive ideals, its evolution during segregation, to its ongoing renaissance in modern times. Through the diversity of its experiences over the years, Belmont-DeVilliers sheds new light on a sometimes overlooked piece of Pensacola's history.

For more information about this special event contact the Main Library at (850) 436-5060 and follow @MyWFPL on Twitter.
