Stay safe at Escambia County beaches year round

Published Oct 17, 2013

As the cooler months approach Escambia County, it is important to remember to practice water safety year round.

Already in effect, the 8.2 mile stretch of Pensacola Beach will be guarded daily for the duration of the fall and winter months by lifeguards in patrol vehicles; two lifeguards Monday through Thursday and three lifeguards Friday through Sunday, 9:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.

Remember:

  • Never swim alone as depths and distances are deceiving.  Knowing the water and what to expect before you go swimming may save your life.
  • Rip currents account for more than 80 percent of rescues performed by surf beach lifeguards.  A daily rip current outlook is included in the Surf Zone Forecast here.
