District 2 ECUA Sanitary Sewer Overflow: Sandview Drive

Published Oct 8, 2013

A sanitary sewer overflow (SSO) occurred on Friday, October 4, 2013, at Sandview Drive as a result of a break in a private (non-ECUA) 2-inch force main.  ECUA crews responded to the break and took action to stop the overflow on behalf of an absent homeowner.   The cause of the overflow is unknown and it is estimated at 2500 gallons.  A minimal amount of flow entered Perdido Bay and bacteriological samples were collected at three sample points by ECUA personnel, per standard operating procedure.  Results indicate no impact as a result of the overflow.

ECUA crews also cleaned and disinfected the area of the overflow per State protocol.  The Escambia County Health Department, the Florida Department of Environmental Protection and the State Warning Point were notified.
