Escambia County Experiences Economic Boost, Welcomes 485 New Jobs

Published Oct 3, 2013

Governor Rick Scott and Florida State Senate President Don Gaetz joined Escambia County Commission Chairman Gene Valentino and Commissioners Grover C. Robinson IV (District 4) and Steven Barry (District 5) announcing 485 additional jobs will soon be available in Escambia County.

The West Fraser Sawmill in the McDavid community is scheduled to reopen after four years, creating 100 full time positions that will include benefits for both salaried and hourly associates. The McDavid mill produces Southern Yellow Pine lumber and has an annual production capacity of about 200 million board feet.  As the largest lumber manufacturer in North America, during the first quarter of 2013, West Fraser reported earnings of $67 million or $1.57 per share on sales of $863 million.

“We reinvest in our company to make our communities successful and are committed to investing in McDavid,” said Sean McLaren, Vice President of U.S. Lumber Operations, West Fraser.  “The jobs we create help communities and families and we are excited to invest in the community to build jobs that last.”

CHCS Services, Inc., a subsidiary of iGATE Technologies, Inc., will create 385 positions in Pensacola in late 2013.  In 2012, the company increased its number of employees by 1/3 and currently acquires 1 million policies, providing effective solutions for more than 300 companies in a variety of specialties.

“The persistence and dedication of the business community have created a stable and predictable business environment,” said Gaetz.  “As a result, more great companies are planting their roots and investing their futures in our Northwest Florida communities.”
