ECUA Reduces Planned Fee Increase for Garbage Collection by 55 cents

Published Sep 27, 2013

On September 26, the Emerald Coast Utilities Authority board voted to reduce a proposed increase in the fee it charges customers for garbage collection. Last month, ECUA had approved a 3.7% increase in solid waste fees, citing concerns regarding the financial stability of West Florida Recycling. However, residents will still see a 14 cent increase in collection service, with monthly fees increasing from $18.35 per month to $18.80 per month.

Additionally, the ECUA Board voted to increase both water and wastewater rates in the upcoming year. Effective October 1, residents will pay $10.48 per 1,000 gallons of water, up from $10.05. Wastewater rates will jump 49 cents per gallon to $11.93 for up to 2,000 gallons, with an additional increase of 27 cents per gallon for each 1,000 gallons over the 2,000 gallon threshold.
