Dedication of Pine Forest High School Media Center

Published Aug 30, 2013

Pine Forest High School will host a dedication ceremony for its Media Center in honor of Hazel H. Scales from 4 to 5 p.m. on Friday, September 6.

The program will contain speeches from Mrs. Scales’s former students and administrators; there will also be a presentation of a letter from a student who was in Mrs. Scales’s classroom more than fifty years ago.

Hazel H. Scales influenced daily the lives of many students for a span of 37 years in public education, 27 of those years in Escambia County.  Her tenure included serving as a teacher, the Escambia High School Language Arts Department Chairperson as well as the assistant principal and principal of Pine Forest High School.  Upon retirement of Pine Forest’s principal in 1980, Mrs. Scales was named to that position thus becoming the first female high school principal in Escambia County.
