Beginning Monday, August 12, Dr. Kevin Manning, award-winning astrophysicist and former NASA consultant, is coming to the West Florida Public Library to present “Astronomy for Everyone.”
This 90-minute program is designed to teach audiences of all ages about the size and scale of the universe, the stars, and other celestial wonders through hands-on activities and assorted visuals. The schedule of Dr. Manning’s appearances is:
- Monday, August 12 – Noon, Main Library
- Monday, August 12 – 4 p.m., Molino Branch
- Tuesday, August 13 – 1:30 p.m., Tryon Branch
- Tuesday , August 13 –4:30 p.m., Westside Branch
- Wednesday, August 14 – 3:30 p.m., Century Branch
- Thursday, August 15 – 10:30 a.m., Southwest Branch
- Thursday, August 15 – 6 p.m., Main Library (Dr. Manning will present a version of this program geared for an adult audience)
The traveling exhibit, which is visiting ten libraries throughout the U.S., is part of the STAR Library Education Network (STAR_Net) led by the National Center for Interactive Learning at the Space Science Institute. The exhibition features an 18-inch-diameter Magic PlanetTM globe, a 42-inch multi-touch table computer and interactive, multimedia displays allowing visitors to interact with digital information in a dynamic way. Each host library will receive a real-time digital weather station that will collect data and show how local temperature, pressure, and precipitation change during the time the exhibition stays at the library.
