Health Alert Issued for Bayous Chico, Grande and Texar

Published Jun 14, 2013

Effective immediately, in response to bacteriological sampling, the Florida Department of Health in Escambia County (DOH-Escambia) has issued a health alert for the following beaches in Escambia County:

  • Bayou Chico at Lakewood Park
  • Bayou Grande, Navy Point - North of Sunset Avenue Bridge
  • Bayou Texar at Bayview Park

The DOH-Escambia advises against any water-related activities at these locations due to the potential for high bacteria levels.  The bacteriological sampling occurred during bi-weekly water quality monitoring activities and the level of bacteria has exceeded the level established by state guidelines.  Water quality in this area will continue to be monitored.

For more information, contact the DOH-Escambia’s Environmental Health office at 850-595-6700 or visit www.EscambiaHealth.com.
