Economic development is a term generally applied to the expansion of a community’s property and sales tax base or the expansion of the number of jobs through office, retail, and industrial development. Escambia County's stepped up efforts promote the quality of our workforce, our high quality of living and our competitive cost of doing business with the tag line "Escambia County, Florida: A Perfect Climate for Everything."
As part of our business attraction efforts, representatives from Escambia County, the Greater Pensacola Chamber of Commerce and Florida's Great Northwest recently visited Germany in an effort to attract Tier 1 and Tier 2 suppliers for Airbus' construction of a commercial aircraft assembly plant in Mobile, AL. The trip was part of a broader effort on behalf of Escambia County to attract and retain quality jobs for its residents though economic development.
Tax incenitves are used stratgeically to leverage significant business start-ups. expansions and relocations. The use of incentives is predicated on the benefits a project represents to the community. Criteria include the amount of investment, job creation and whether the project involves a targeted business such as aerospace/aviation manufacturing, healthcare and financial services.
To further economic development efforts and help businesses grow and thrive, the County has created an Office of Business Opportunity (OBA). We take a special interest in sound businesses with a strong potential for future growth that will invest and create jobs in Escambia County. The OBA works closely with the broader community partnerships to attract world class operations, making referrals on available sites to meet the needs of industrial, office and commenrcial uses. County officials are also available to help existing businesses indentify specific opportunites for business retentions and expansion.
