Escambia County All-Star Academic Team Finishes Second in Statewide Academic Tournament

The Escambia County All-Star Academic Team attended the Commissioner’s Academic Challenge (CAC), an academic statewide tournament, in Orlando April 18 – 20. 

The All-Star Academic Team is composed of the top six high-school “quiz bowl” players in the district.  Students compete in rigorous academic competitions that focus on subject areas such as math, science, language arts, social studies, fine arts and foreign language.

The CAC features all-star teams from various Florida counties compete in three divisions based on K-12 full time enrollment.  As part of Division 1, which features the 20 largest school districts in Florida including Escambia County, Escambia’s direct competitors include Duval, Pinellas, Brevard and Broward counties.

This is the fourth consecutive year that Escambia County has finished in the top two at the CAC.  Escambia County has earned six state titles, more than any other district in Division 1. 

The 2013 All-Star Academic Team consisted of:  Matt Peteranecz (senior), Hannibal Brooks (senior), Malcolm Brooks (senior), Caroline Fleischhauer (junior), Nathan Deng (junior), and Preston Jones (junior).
