The first phase of a large scale traffic improvement project on Pensacola Beach will be considered by the Escambia County Commission during its regularly scheduled meeting Thursday, April 18, at 5:30 p.m.
The first phase of this effort will include the widening of the roadway leading up to and away from the toll plaza on Pensacola Beach, making it easier for drivers to navigate the area.
A new pedestrian crosswalk is also part of the first phase of this project, which would connect the Quietwater parking lot with the business and attractions across the street, including Shaggy’s Restaurant, the Elk Lodge and the Pensacola Marina.
As designed, the crosswalk would include road safety lighting set in the road surface, a safety feature currently not in use in Escambia County. For video of similar lighting, click here.
Also included in this potential project would be the relocation of certain utilities near the toll plaza and installing a new turn lane to the access road that leads to Radical Rides and the Grand Marlin.
The total cost of the first phase of road construction is approximately $429,650.00
This project is a result of the Pensacola Beach Master Plan that was created a few years ago. The goal of the larger project is to make Pensacola Beach an easier and safer place for drivers and pedestrians.
